Kirtan is the sacred and ancient tradition of chanting mantras in call and response style. It is a beautiful, heart-opening experience and a great way to meditate as it gives your body something to do (e.g. chant), and gives your mind something to focus on (e.g. the music and the mantra) and therefore the practice can quickly help to quiet the mind.
This evening will involve music and mantra, as well as silent and guided meditation and the chance to simply listen to and absorb into mantras being sung to you.
This event is being led by Living Peace Kirtan – husband and wife team, Greg and Ginny Clarke – who lead regular kirtan events at The Yoga Shack and around the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle region.
“The words of these chants are called the divine names and they come from a place that’s deeper than our hearts and our thoughts, deeper than the mind. And so as we sing them they turn us towards ourselves, into ourselves. They bring us in, and as we offer ourselves into the experience, the experience changes us.” Krishna Das
