Uncle Henry Model

In the early 1970’s Ram Dass and the Hanuman foundation released a special yoga practice set. It included Mala beads, a beautiful booklet, a vinyl record of chants and talks, plus much more. When he showed the set to his successful businessman and lawyer father and told him the price and the quantity that had been sold, his father suggested he could charge more and it would most likely not impact sales. Ram Dass agreed, but went on to ask his father about a recent legal case his father had done for his brother Henry. Ram Dass asked about how many extra hours and effort his father had done for his brother Henry’s case. Hi father said that he had done many, many extra hours and that it was a tough case. Ram Dass said that you must have charged Henry a fortune and his father looking puzzled and said “Of course not, its Uncle Henry!”.

Ram Dass said “Well that’s my problem Dad, when you can find me someone who is not Uncle Henry to me, I will rip them off”. Ram Dass saw everyone as his brother or sister so he could only sell them the product at a price that reflected that relationship.

This story rings true for Ginny and I. We see all the yogis that come to LPY as Uncle Henry and as such offer the best price, the Uncle Henry Price. This model enables us to serve as cleanly and clearly as we can and keep the studio alive and afloat.
